SUMMER SCHOOL - Call for applications

Gender and Sexuality

1-8 June

Call for applications

Due to circumstances and limitations created by COVID 19 this year, we take the school online as we continue to offer a supportive learning environment and to build a community of practice surrounding gender, sexual rights, and social justice. In particular, we are motivated by the needs and interests of our students, who are increasingly finding feminist frameworks necessary and meaningful in times of crisis.

Date of attendance week: 1-8 June 2020; preparatory online self-study starting 28 May 2020.

Lectures, seminars and workshops are led by scholars from the University of Prishtina, Bournemouth University and Rochester Institute of Technology - Kosovo, and activists in gender and human rights (Bosnia, Kosovo).

We invite bachelor students from the social sciences, humanities as well as natural sciences and activists and practitioners interested in gender and sexuality.

Participants will develop projects during the course (forms will vary: article, blog, video, poster, etc.) and will receive support for production costs.

The course begins with review of concepts, definitions and critical practice in the broader fields of gender, feminist and queer studies. We will conduct a survey of some key feminist theories and methodologies (materialist, poststructuralist, queer and postcolonialist).

We then take a look at various disciplinary perspectives and debates including topics of feminism and social reproduction, representation and intersections of gender, sex, race and class, globalisation and work, vulnerability and agency. In addition to two lecture/workshop sessions from invited scholars, we will also hold Q&A sessions with invited authors.
