Hate Speech and Ethical Reporting on LGBTI+ Issues in Kosovo: The Connection with Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia

CEL Kosova and the Association of Journalists of Kosovo held the active discussion roundtable “Hate Speech and Ethical Reporting on LGBTI+ Issues in Kosovo: The Connection with Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia.”

During this meeting, professors, journalists, editors, journalism students, civil society representatives and citizens discussed the role of the media in ethical, accurate and responsible reporting on LGBTIQ+ issues in Kosovo.

As part of the roundtable, Arbër Selmani from CEL Kosova and Xhemajl Rexha from the Association of Journalists of Kosovo delivered lectures on queer terminology, ethical reporting standards, the avoidance of stereotypes and sensationalism, as well as the importance of building media and academic narratives that respect and empower queer communities.

The discussion emphasized the need for more responsible media, safer public spaces and a more inclusive approach to reporting on LGBTIQ+ communities in Kosovo. This activity was implemented by CEL Kosova in cooperation with the Association of Journalists of Kosovo, with the support of the Embassy of Sweden in Kosovo.
