Co-funded by the European Union in Kosovo and the Embassy of Sweden in Pristina, we organized a discussion forum in Mitrovica with police officers from the Kosovo Police Regional Directorate in Mitrovica, focusing on the institutional handling of cases involving LGBTI+ persons and on the role of the Kosovo Police in ensuring protection and equal access to justice.
During the discussion, participants addressed the legal framework protecting the rights of LGBTI+ persons, police practices and procedures for handling cases, the challenges police officers face in their daily work, as well as concrete cases that enabled participants to exchange experiences and discuss ways to improve the institutional response.
The forum created an important space for open dialogue, trust-building, and strengthening cooperation between the Kosovo Police and civil society organizations, with the aim of advancing the professional and equal treatment of cases affecting LGBTI+ communities and contributing to a safer and more inclusive environment for all citizens.
