Training with judges on the legal framework and correct approach to LGBTIQ+ persons in Kosovo

One-day training was held with judges of the Republic of Kosovo, which focused on hate speech, hate crimes and their criminal prosecution, early consideration and prevention of hate speech and crimes, discrimination and prejudice against LGBTIQ+ persons. Taking the legal framework in the country as the main basis of this training, all laws of Kosovo that guarantee and protect the rights of LGBTIQ+ persons in Kosovo were examined and how they can be applied fairly by the officials in question in order to treat them with dignity and providing equal opportunities for LGBTIQ+ people. Also, during the training, the main concepts that belong to the LGBTIQ+ communities were discussed, thus completing the basis for a more technical pursuit of language and hate crimes, as well as how victims of hate crimes against LGBTIQ+ people should be treated and what are the main skills of necessary to gather evidence of bias motive and the key elements that differentiate hate crimes from ordinary crimes. This activity is supported by the Norwegian Helsinki Committee and the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
