The Parliamentary Group of the Self-Determination Movement (LVV) today at 13:00 organizes a public hearing for the Draft Civil Code of the Republic of Kosovo. LVV has invited professors, experts, representatives from institutions, representatives from civil society, notaries, lawyers, as well as some students from the Faculty of Law for this public hearing.
One of the issues that has been most debated and discussed publicly regarding the Draft Civil Code is the legal regulation of marriage/cohabitation of persons of the same gender/sex. Surprisingly, LVV in organizing the public discussion has not invited two civil society organizations that have been very vocal and prominent on this issue, they have not been invited to present their legitimate positions in this public hearing.
The exclusion of civil society organizations that advocate for certain causes demonstrates unequal treatment for all citizens of the Republic of Kosovo. The exclusion from the public hearing shows LVV’s selective and discriminatory approach to human rights, which is contrary to the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo and the Law on Protection against Discrimination. This implies that LVV has disregarded the rights of LGBTI individuals and their issues.
