Today we interrupted the meeting of the Parliamentary Commission for Human Rights called by the homophobe Duda Balje, chairperson of this commission. Our demands are clear: HOMOPHOBES HAVE NO PLACE IN ASSEMBLY and the IMMEDIATE RESIGN OF DUDA BALJE from the Human Rights Commission.
Duda Balje publicly stated again that she stands behind her exclusionary and discriminatory language towards LGBTIQ+ people under the classic pretext that “it is my personal opinion”. She made this statement today in the discussion that was held in the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo on the topic “The current situation in the protection and promotion of human rights in Kosovo”.
It is scandalous and extremely disturbing that a Member of Parliament, at the same time the Chairperson of the Human Rights Commission, does not understand the basic principle on which these public positions should operate – human rights are universal and LGBTIQ+ people deserve equal rights. For these public statements, Duda should immediately resign from the position of the president.
Discrimination continues from MP Labinotte Demi Murtezi, present at this meeting, who publicly declared that “LGBTIQ+ PERSONS SPREAD DISEASE”, a statement we heard from her also in the session of March 16, 2022.
This slander and language of hatred towards LGBTIQ+ persons is unacceptable and requires immediate addressing by the Presidency of the Assembly of Kosovo!
Today’s action forced Duda Balje to cancel the meeting which she organized himself.
We will continue to demand the immediate resignation of Duda Balje from the Human Rights Commission. The request is the same for MP Labinota Demi Murtezi.
Homophobes have no place in the Assembly!
