Public Discussion regarding rights of the LGBT - Prizren
Today in Prizren, starting at 13:00 until 15:00, for the first time there was a Public Discussion regarding rights of the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender) community in Kosovo.
The focus of this discussion was to inform participants about the position of the LGBT community in the Kosovar society, about the discrimination and violence through which this community passes because of the sexual orientation and/or gender identity. During the discussion, panelists shared information about the legal rights that the community has in Kosovo.
The resistance that society shows towards this topic, and the lack of surveys and statistics regarding this topic, both were also mentioned in the discussion. Blert Morina from CEL (Centre for Equality and Liberty), Agim Margilaj from CSGD (Center for Social Group Development), and Ellza Alija from KDI (Kosovo Democratic Institute), were the representative panelists. Participants in the discussion also had the opportunity to be informed about the services that the organizations CEL and CSGD offer providing support to this community in Kosovo.
These are the first steps of the necessary work which will continue in different municipalities of Kosovo.
This event is supported by the Engagement for Equity- E4E program, which is financed by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and is implemented by Advocacy Training Resource Center (ATRC).
