Viola Di Mare

Another story that proves that loves knows no laws, no social norms, and is something that is never disputable. The movie shows Angela and Saras love story in nineteenth centyry Sicily.

No one can stop Angela from being with her childhood friend. Not her father, not the church, nor social norms. Their love is one that turns into romantic love later one. To escape a scandal, Angelas family will try to change her from a girl into a boy. They change her sex on her birth certificate as well. They make her cut her hair, and hide her femininity.

The movie won two awards in the new Italian film festival of 2009, for best movie and best main actress which Valeria Solarino won for her role Angela.

The movie aroused a lot of interest with the participants, opening the door for a powerful debate. All the participants felt that it was a heartbreaking story, and that it relates a lot to the social norms present in our society.

We thank all the participants.
